Database Performance Tools for the DBA

The SUPRA PDM Windows utilities consist of a free, full-function copy of two PDM Windows utilities (the Linkpath Editor and the SUPRA PDM Database Monitor). Both utilities not only represent excellent performance tools for the DBA, but also can be used to illustrate the power of the SUPRA PDM Windows Client product.

Linkpath Editor

If your SUPRA PDM database linkpaths become damaged (typically from partial database restores or other incomplete operational processes), previously your only recourse was to:

1. Do a full database restore from a known good backup. With this method, however, you will lose any recent updates.
   -or-
2. Perform a dataset unload and reload. With this method, however, you could potentially lose some data records.

The Linkpath Editor (LKxxEDIT) is now available to enable you to perform a linkpath correction in place quickly.

Caution:

If you chose to utilize the Linkpath Editor (LKxxEDIT Utility), be sure to first make a backup copy of your database files.

The Linkpath Editor can be an invaluable tool and save enormous amounts of DBA time. But it can also be a very dangerous tool. If used improperly, it can further corrupt your linkpaths and make a bad situation worse.

SUPRA PDM Database Monitor

The SUPRA PDM Database Monitor is an easy-to-use graphical tool for tracking SUPRA PDM database resources. It uses the PDM Windows Client to help database administrators with database analysis and tuning. It can also help alert you to potential problem conditions.

• Monitor your SUPRA PDM database.
